the dream sequence
I'm a sucker for a good, freaky dream sequence and, as far as I'm concerned, Joss Whedon is one of the masters at that. All the foreshadowing is there - the Gentlemen, Buffy & Riley's first kiss & Maggie's future creepiness.

the exposition scene
This is probably one of my favourite scenes of all time. I love so much about it. I love the idea that Giles spent all day drawing his little pictures (I also love that this gets a call back in season seven with his flashcards.) and spent time picking out the perfect music to go along with his presentation. Xander's misinterpretations, Buffy's staking gesture & her reaction to Giles's big-hipped Buffy drawing, & Anya with her popcorn. This entire scene always fills me with glee.

the gentlemen
The floating, the rictus-like grin, the overall creepiness. I love and loathe them in equal measures. And what were they going to do with those hearts?! We never find out & I think that's what creeps me out the most about them.

the shippiness
This episode has some great 'ship moments sprinkled throughout it. We have Buffy & Riley's first kiss (I like Riley in season four & thought that scene was pretty swoon-worthy) & then they both discover each other's big secrets. Anya learns exactly how much Xander cares for her. We have the first appearance of Tara & her instant connection with Willow. And we have Olivia's last visit with Giles, which is a bit of a downer. :(
