So, after seeing quite a bit of Twilight love/hate (not to mention a fair bit of lovehate) on my flist, I finally succumbed and downloaded a purloined pdf of the first book *cough* found a copy of the first book.
After having read the first two chapters, I have one thing to say to Bella: Get off the fucking cross before I punch you off it.
This is like bad crack. And not even good bad crack. Just bad, bad crack. I'm going to need a little Margaret Mahy to wash this down, I think. Actually, if you're even thinking of reading any of Stephenie Meier's books, might I recommend The Changeover as an alternative. My soul would feel a little less damaged if I knew more pre-teen & teen girls were reading books like this.
However, I think I'll be reading the whole series, if only for the joke potential.

It's weird, I feel so wrong for reading this appalling book, but at least now I'll be in on all the jokes.
