serenity now!

Before the LJ-cut, I'd just like to point out that I managed to keep myself miraculously unspoiled for this movie. And I am eternally grateful that I did. This movie has it's share of shocks and you're better off not knowing them before you go in.

I'm probably just going to ramble incoherently now. Beware of spoilers

I really liked the bad guy (I don't think he was even given a name?). He was a great foil to Mal. He believed whole-heartedly in the alliance & the "good" they were doing. He was willing to kill as many people as necessary to get River back - for the good of the alliance. A slightly different skew on this movie & he could have been the good guy.

The movie itself focussed mostly on River & Mal, but each of their characters got their moment to shine. The humour & action (though this was amped up quite a bit - a lot more violence) remained similar to that on the show.

There wasn't much of Book. And his death was sad - but necessary. It was definitely the impetus for Mal to make his way through to Miranda and uncover the big conspiracy. Miranda was definitely very creepy - especially the video created by the last research scientist. *shudder* The revelation that the Reavers were actually created by the (Pax?) pumped into the air filtration system was very neat.

The big space battle was very cool, I was very impressed with the cgi work on that. Very exciting leading to the crash-landing. And, of course... Wash's death. So sudden & shocking a gasped. Why Wash? WHY??????????? Seriously, that moment was so shocking. My second thought was, poor Zoe.

I really liked River in this movie, but I've always really liked River. It was fun to see her fight (especially beating up Jayne. hee!), but also very creepy, poor girl.

Kaylee finally got Simon, which made me very happy for her. Kaylee is definitely my favourite character. :)

Also - the music was great. I'm definitely going to be buying the soundtrack.

All in all, I loved it! I may be biased, but I don't care. I thought it was fantastic. :)

I broke down and read the novelization and then the screenplay before seeing the movie. But doing it that way I did get the story- and I'm glad that I did, because without knowing the the whole plot...would have been wrong.

From the screenplay, I got the idea that the character's name was just "The Operative".

Book's death wasn't that much of a shock to me...but Wash's was.

What's interesting is that the visual guide/screenplay mentions that Alan Tudyk could be in a sequel if they made one ?!#????

And Kaylee & Simon- YAY. They're my OTP and Simon's my favorite character, followed closely by Kaylee.

How is the novelisation? I might pick it up if it's a good read.

WHY WASH??????? Barely had a second to register that he really was dead before they were running from the Reavers - one of the most shocking moments I've seen in a movie. And I'm kind of annoyed that we didn't get any of Book's history. He always intrigued me.

Buh?! Flashbacks? Maybe an evil twin? Or clones? That's just... hopefully thay can bring him back in a non-cheesy way.

Hee! I've always loved Kaylee & Simon together. So cute. :) Kaylee is definitely my favourite. But I love everyone on that boat. :)
